Explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Valparaíso during this scenic and informative, half-day sightseeing excursion.
Valparaíso, Valparaíso Heritage Interpretation Centre, Villa Victoria
Depart the pier for your picturesque tour of Valparaíso. An UNESCO World Heritage Site, this city is an exceptional testimony to the early phase of globalisation in the late-19th century, when it became the leading commercial port on the sea routes of the Pacific Coast of South America. Your first stop is at nearby Villa Victoria, the first live exhibition of the glorious past of Valparaíso during the 19th century. It is located inside the Valparaíso Heritage Interpretation Centre, formerly an old mansion built in 1904. Villa Victoria was re-opened in 2014 after an extensive restoration effort to preserve the original glamour of one of the houses of the wealthiest woman in the city, which was converted into a bakery during the 20th century.
Old Customs Building, Plaza Sotomayor, Heroes of Iquique Monument
Following your tour, drive through the city along the way, see the Old Customs Building, erected in 1855, and stop for photos at the main historic square, Plaza Sotomayor. Here, see the Monument to the Heroes of Iquique, erected in 1886 to honour fallen Chilean sailors during the Battle of Iquique.
El Peral Funicular, Panoramic Ride & Views, Yugoslavo Promenade, Baburizza Museum
Next, head to the El Peral Funicular for a panoramic ride up one of the most historic hills. Upon arrival at the top of the hill, visit the Yugoslavo Promenade for breath-taking views of your surrounds, then stop by the Baburizza Museum to view its collection of fine arts. Following your visit, descend the El Peral Funicular, then re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
