St. David's Cathedral

Built hidden in a depression below the town square in the hope that Norse invaders would pass without noticing it, the 12th-century St. David's Cathedral is magnificent and steeped in antiquity. The floor slopes approximately three feet (about 0.9 metres) upwards and the pillars lean drunkenly (though not precariously) as the result of the Earthquake of 1248. This cathedral is the only one in the United Kingdom in which the reigning monarch has a permanently reserved pew.

Leaving St. David's Cathedral, take a guided walking tour of this delightful city. Along the way, an exterior photo stop is made at the extensive ruins of the 12th century Bishop's Palace.
