Excursion Mt. varden viewpoint hike tour at Molde

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

When traveling through Norway’s über-scenic fjordlands, breathtaking vistas are to be expected. But the views you'll witness on this excursion to the top of Molde's Mt. Varden are as jaw-dropping as they come. You'll be gazing out on a truly spectacular panorama of the Romsdalsfjord – with its flotilla of tiny islands and more snow-dusted Romsdal Alp peaks than you can count, stacked up in ranks on the opposite shoreline. On a clear day, this scene is just about as exhilarating as Planet Earth offers. Best of all, after arriving at Varden viewpoint by motorcoach transfer from the pier, your hike back to town, while lengthy, is downhill most of the way.

The 25-minute drive up brings you through contemporary Molde, aka the "Town of Roses" – renowned for its world-class jazz festival, its innovative folk museum, and, above all, its majestic natural environment. After drinking in Varden's astonishing views, you’ll set out on foot, traversing the green hillside trail with your expert guide in the lead. Passing scattered residences built of wood and graced with lovely gardens, you'll head towards the Storli-Lodge, entering Reknes Park and pausing to savor yet more stunning vistas from the Rekneshaugen viewpoint. Zigzagging gently downwards towards town, pass the House of Culture shortly before landing back at the quay where this bracing excursion started.

Easy peasy – thanks to gravity’s help and your energy.
