Scenic Drive to Starigrad Paklenica
Your journey begins with a picturesque drive along Croatia’s stunning coastline to Starigrad Paklenica, a charming seaside town nestled at the foot of the majestic Velebit Mountains. This idyllic destination serves as the gateway to Paklenica National Park, one of the country’s most celebrated natural treasures. Upon arrival, meet your expert guide for a briefing on the hiking route and a short safety orientation before setting off on your adventure.
Hiking in Paklenica National Park
Established as a national park in 1949, Paklenica encompasses approximately 95 square kilometres of pristine wilderness. Its crown jewel is the legendary Anica Kuk, a dramatic 400-metre peak offering sweeping views of the Adriatic coast and the rugged Velebit range. The park is also renowned for its two spectacular canyons—Velika (Large) and Mala (Small) Paklenica—whose sheer cliffs and striking rock formations create a landscape of extraordinary beauty.
Your guided hike begins in the Karst River Canyon, framed by the imposing Velika and Mala Paklenica canyons. This unique karst terrain is a geological wonder, dotted with caves, fissures, and natural sculptures known as skrape. As you ascend towards Anica Luka, enjoy several scenic stops along the way. Upon reaching Anica Luka, pause to savour refreshments and take in panoramic vistas of this breathtaking environment. After some time to relax and absorb the tranquillity, retrace your steps back to Starigrad Paklenica.
