Excursion Hakodate highlights tour at Hakodate

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Enjoy spectacular views of Hakodate city from two vantage points on this tour that lasts just over three hours. First arrive at the Goryokaku Tower and its fascinating star-shaped Fort, built in 1855 by the short-lived Republic of Ezo as its headquarters.

The Goryokaku Tower is 107 meters high, with observatory decks that command the entire view of "Star-Shaped" Goryokaku Fort, as well as the city of Hakodate, the Tsugaru Strait and the Yokotsu mountain range. Take a short tour inside the fort led by your knowledgeable guide.

Drive just 20 minutes to arrive at Mt. Hakodate for a cable car ride (also called a "ropeway" ride) for splendid views from this peak. Mt. Hakodate is a 334-meter-high mountain at the southern end of the peninsula and your 3-minute ropeway ride takes you up to the top of mountain. This is a unique opportunity to see the fascinating shape of Hakodate city from the observatory.

Upon returning to the foot of the mountain, there is time to stroll around Motomachi area located at the foot of Mount Hakodate. The landscape of this area remains a fusion of Japanese and western culture. The buildings used as consulates or public halls and stone path slope create this unique atmosphere.

Make the return trip to the pier.
