Excursion Floating sauna escape tour at Oslo

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

What’s even more soothing than a sauna? A floating sauna! That’s right – a cozy wood-fired sauna that happens to be waterborne on a piloted platform designed to travel along the scenic waters of the Oslofjord. The result is a uniquely refreshing escape that combines delicious warmth, beautiful nature, and the invigorating contrast of a swim in Nordic waters.

Your session begins with a 15-minute walk from Oslo pier to one of two different fjordside docks – either Aker Brygge or Rivierkaia – to board a cozy waterborne sauna designed for drifting on the fjord. Step inside and spend the next 90 minutes soaking up the muscle-restoring heat as you gaze out through expansive panoramic windows onto superb views of Oslo’s harbor, its scattered islands, and – during the summer – an endless supply of golden light.

Your certified “sauna pilot” will navigate this one-of-a-kind vessel on a gentle drifting itinerary, pointing out notable sights in the fjord as you progress. For a quintessential Scandinavian touch, step outside for a brief plunge into the crisp, revitalizing waters before retreating back into the sauna’s comforting warmth. It’s an ideal way to unwind and embrace Norway’s deeply ingrained sauna culture. It’s guaranteed you’ll stroll back to the pier afterwards with a fresh spring to your step.

Note

Please note: This moderate excursion involves about 2,000-4,600 ft (600-1,400 m) of roundtrip walking to/from the dock, depending on which floating sauna is used. A step down may be required to board the vessel at low tide. The activity is not suitable for those who utilize a wheelchair. Guests must be in good physical condition and able to swim. It is recommended to bring/wear a swimsuit and bring along two towels and bottled water (this can also be purchased on board). Life jackets are available if desired. There are no toilets on board and no bathroom facilities at Aker Brygge; at Rivierkaia sauna dock, toilets and changing rooms with cold-water showers are available. The saunas are propelled by outboard engines; guides are certified boat pilots.
