Excursion Eldred rock lighthouse & wildlife tour tour at Haines
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Begin your journey at Port Chilkoot Dock in Haines, where you’ll board a modern, comfortable vessel for a narrated cruise through North America’s deepest fjord. As you glide along the water, enjoy spectacular mountain scenery and keep an eye out for marine wildlife such as whales, porpoises, and bald eagles. The cruise provides a unique perspective of Alaska’s rugged coastline, with plenty of opportunities for photos and wildlife viewing.
Exploring Eldred Rock & the Lighthouse
Approximately 45 minutes into the cruise, you’ll arrive at Eldred Rock, home to Alaska’s oldest standing lighthouse. The visit is divided into two guided experiences: one group explores the lighthouse grounds, including the Boat House, Helipad, Workshop, waterfall viewpoints, and wildlife vistas; the other tours the lighthouse interior, museum, and historic lens room—limited to four guests at a time for an intimate experience. At the halfway point, groups switch so everyone can enjoy both the scenic grounds and the interior history.
Wildlife & Scenic Return
After exploring, reboard the boat for the scenic return journey to Haines. As you cruise back, your captain may pause to view a harbor seal rookery, sea lion haul-out, waterfalls, and dramatic cliffs—although wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. Enjoy a light local snack onboard as you take in the stunning coastal scenery. The tour concludes at Port Chilkoot Dock, leaving you with incredible photos and memories of Alaska’s maritime history and rugged beauty.
