Join oyster fishers John and Jackie Gillis at their beautiful home on the banks of the Pinette River where they grow and harvest oysters. John will show you how he harvests oysters with the traditional tonging method and teach how you to properly shuck oysters.
If you love oysters then you are in for a unique experience. On Prince Edward Island, they've harvested the famous Malpeque oyster the same way for generations using a set of long wooden tongs to bring the succulent delicacies from the bottom of rivers and bays around the Island. John Gillis has been harvesting oysters for most of his life and loves nothing better than sharing his passion and knowledge with visitors.
Board the coach for a scenic approximately 45-minute drive through the picturesque eastern region of the Island brings you to his home and oyster lease on the beautiful Pinette River. Here, he'll demonstrate "tonging" for oysters and explain how the oysters grow. If you'd like to try your hand at tonging, you're welcome to give it a try. Discover how to tell the difference between standard and choice oysters. Then, you'll be shown how to safely shuck oysters and have the chance to try opening a few. Of course, you will also get to eat some of the freshest oysters you've ever tasted, enjoy them naked or with one of Jackie's tasty toppings! To enhance the enjoyment of this succulent seafood complimentary wine, beer and soft drinks are included.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 75 feet (22 metres) with three-five steps to negotiate. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and those who utilise a collapsible wheelchair; however, some areas of the House are not accessible. Guests must be able to get on/off the coach without assistance. Guests must be at least 19 years old to be served alcoholic beverages.
