Excursion Moonlit sanctuary and botanic gardens tour at Melbourne

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

For those intrigued by natural diversity – and downright oddity – few other continents hold a candle to the wildlife and garden areas found in Australia. This full-day outing travels by coach to a pair of venues outside Melbourne that together promise unforgettable face-to-paw-to-seedpod encounters with much of that extraordinary flora and fauna that thrives Down Under.

Animal magnetism at Moonlit Sanctuary

In the unspoiled bushlands some 90 minutes from the pier, this captivating preserve offers the opportunity to engage with over 70 iconic Australian species, many quite rare and endangered. Highlights of course include dingoes, wombats, and koalas – but then, the orange-bellied parrots, kookaburras, squirrel gliders, and others are plenty tempting to spend time with during your 1.5-hour freeform visit.

Nature touring at a botanic wonderland

The award-winning, contemporary Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne offer a natural bushland experience alongside an Australian Garden that celebrates the unusual beauty and diversity of the Aussie landscape. Overall, some 100,000 plants from 1,900 plant varieties are featured, yours to admire and learn about from the live commentary offered aboard the venue’s open-air electric touring bus. Take in the fascinating Red Sand Garden. Journey through a series of themed display gardens ending with the Aussie-centric Eucalypt Walk. And enjoy your preferred two-course selection from the lunch menu reserved for you at the garden’s onsite Boon Wurrung Café before the 90-minute return drive to the ship.
