Excursion Husky puppy experience tour at Tromsoe

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Prepare for an unforgettable encounter with some of the finest husky sled-racing dogs in the Arctic during this interactive, half-day husky-puppy excursion with lunch.

Tromsø, Old City, Sandenessund Bridge, Kvaløya Island, Husky Home, Tromsø Wilderness Camp

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Husky Home. En route, pass through the charming Old City and island of Tromsø, then cross the Sandenessund Bridge to Kvaløya, a mountainous island with peaks rising to an elevation of over 3,200 feet (about 975 metres). Upon arrival, proceed to Husky Home, the Tromsø Wilderness Camp, where a warm welcome awaits you by the 100+ Alaskan huskies raised here. Tove Sørensen has made her mark in the world of sled-racing; she and her son, Torkil, regularly participate in the Finnmark Race with the friendly dogs at Husky Home.

Interactive Feeding and Training of Husky Puppies

During the summer months, puppies enrolled in the Puppy Training Program receive their first lessons. Today, you are invited to lend a hand by participating in one of the most rewarding parts of the job; the process of helping to prepare the little ones for their future as racing stars. During a guided tour of the puppy facilities, feed the puppies, and garner a first-hand insight into their care and upbringing. Afterward, it's time to start the training. Follow one of the experienced guides into the wilderness surrounding the centre, and spend some quality time playfully teaching the puppies their first commands and cuddling with them.

Gamme-Roundhouse, Lunch around an Open Fire

Following the dog-training portion of the tour, proceed for lunch served around an open fire in the traditional Gamme-Roundhouse. You will learn about Tove or Torkil’s expeditions through a film, and hear stories about being a musher, their racing activities, life with their beloved huskies and their participation in Finnmarkslopet, Europe's longest dog-sled race.

At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
