Halifax Public Gardens
Depart the pier with your guide for the drive through Halifax. Along the way, discover some of the splendid architecture and historic landmarks of this 270-year-old city and pass by St. Mary's Basilica. Its graceful spire rises 128 feet above the roof and is the tallest polished granite spire in North America. Next, visit the Halifax Public Gardens - one of the country's finest Victorian public gardens with its famous bandstand, water fountains, and raised flowerbeds.
Halifax Citadel
Your drive continues to the Halifax Citadel, a National Historic Site. Upon arrival, a visit is made to the Citadel's Fortress, which dates from the mid-1700s. For more than 75 years, it functioned as the British Imperial bastion of control in the country. From this fine vantage point, take in panoramic views of both the harbour and city. The impressive early 19th-century Old Town Clock at the entrance is not to be missed.
Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
Your final stop will be at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, where you will be given some free time to explore the province's impressive collection of regional, national and international art at your own leisure. The gallery has over 17,000 works of art in its varied collection, ranging from classical portraits to Nova Scotian folk art to Inuit stone carvings and it is the largest art museum in Atlantic Canada.
Your tour concludes with a brief drive back to the pier. Those guests who wish to remain at the Art Gallery longer may stay behind and then make their own way back to the pier at their own expense.
