Excursion Scenic skagen (wheelchair accessible) tour at Skagen
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Perched at the far northern tip of Denmark’s Jutland peninsula, the immense charm and natural beauty of Skagen and its surroundings have drawn artists and travelers here for as long as anyone can remember. This effortless panoramic outing via compact motorcoach invites you to capture much of that authentic scenery without taking a single step.
Starting out from Skagen pier, take your seat as you traverse Denmark's bustling main fishing port and shipyard center. Witness a charming city center beloved for its signature yellow houses with red tile roofs. Venture further afield into a magnificent countryside landscape where wide sandy shorelines and stunning seaside vistas create an atmosphere that once captured the imaginations of the Skagen Painters, those 19th-century Impressionists who frequented the region to revel in its evocative seascapes, sand dunes, and luminescent light.
Drive along the Raabjerg Mile, Northern Europe's largest migrating dune noted for its otherworldly yet magnificent topography. Originally located on the western coast, this massive landform has been inching some 50 ft (15m) towards the northeast every year for centuries. Crossing over to that West coast, witness the Cape Cod style of Gammelskagen Strand and its famed sunset point. Later, cruise past the scenic Grey Lighthouse and others as the coach approaches Grenen, a natural landmark at Denmark's northernmost point. Here along this lengthy sandbar, two seas collide as waves from the Skagerrak and Kattegat Straits meet to connect the North Sea with the Baltic.
A leisurely return drive of about 35 minutes brings you back to Skagen pier by way of historical neighborhoods and the always-active town marina.
