Excursion Png’s 50th golden independence day celebration tour at Vanimo
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Vanimo is a small township with an economy centered around the timber industry. Today is particularly significant as your visit aligns with the PNG 50th National Independence Day, and celebrations will be taking place throughout the country, with Vanimo being no exception.
After a wet landing on the black sandy beach in front of Vanimo Town, board the local minivans for a brief journey to the main festival ground. Spend at least two hours there to observe various events, including a remarkable display of cultures in traditional attire, accompanied by singing and dancing to the rhythm of drums; the sound and color are truly spectacular. Concurrently, other activities will be organized, including an Arts and Craft Market and various souvenirs on display, providing you with the opportunity to purchase a memento for yourself.
Note
Please note: The local minivans will be available to provide continuous transfers to and from the zodiac landing area. Those who wish to return to the ship early after enjoying the festival grounds may do so, as the minivans will be ready to facilitate transfers at all times. The final transfer will depart from the show ground at 5:00 PM. Papua New Guinea is a very-low-income country with very basic infrastructure, and vastly different to the western culture mentality. Local conditions may be challenging; therefore, we urge flexibility and understanding as we visit unique and somewhat remote destinations. Coaches, guides, equipment, and services are the best-available in the area, but may not be up to the standards of those found on other excursions. Local buses are not equipped with the a/c, windows will be open.
