Owl's Head Transportation Museum

Depart the pier for the short drive to the Owl's Head Transportation Museum, home to a landmark collection of antique aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles, carriages, bicycles, and engines. The collection features a replica of the Wright Brothers' Kitty Hawk Flyer, as well as many other vintage airplanes and cars. This fine collection is maintained in operating condition, and routinely flown and demonstrated.


During your visit, you may opt to take a short ride in a Ford Model T. Explore the evolution of wing and wheel, from gliders to World War I fighters, including the Red Baron's famous Red Fokker triplane. Relive the advancement from horse-drawn carriage to the motorized mechanical ancestors of today's automobiles and airplanes.


Owl's Head Lighthouse

Next, re-board your coach and take a scenic drive to the nearby Owl's Head Lighthouse, which features spectacular vistas of Maine's beautiful rocky coast. The lighthouse was first commissioned by President John Quincy Adams in 1825 due to the growing lime trade, and subsequent shipping traffic in Rockland Harbour. During your visit, you may opt to take a short walk to the base of the lighthouse for a closer look. Following your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.


Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking and standing for approximately 500 yards (about 457 metres), at times over gravel surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and 80 steps at the lighthouse. This tour is suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear comfortable, layered clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection and a light jacket or sweater from the ship. Guests must be at least 10 years old to participate on this tour.
