Excursion Mumbai at dawn tour at Bombay

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Awaken to a burst of colour, spiritual calm and the splendid sights of Mumbai during this half-day, early-morning sightseeing excursion.

Flower Market

Depart the pier for the early-morning drive to a local flower market, whilst the roads of Mumbai are peaceful and quiet. Upon arrival, see a cavalcade of fresh, colourful flowers, and hear the cacophony of sellers and buyers. This temporary market comes alive as early as 4 a.m., and disappears by 9 a.m. Flowers are everywhere; orange and red marigolds heaped on tarpaulins and sold by weight, white champa in tiny baskets and sold by the number, and delicately-wrapped pink lotuses in broad leaves to be offered to the gods. During your visit, pick a garland to be offered by you at the next stop, one of the ISKCON temples or the Hara Rama Hare Krishna Temple.

ISKCON or Hara Rama Krisna Temple

Dedicated to Lord Krishna, the world-renowned ISKCON temples represent a tribute to Srila Parabhupada's perseverance to spread the Krishna consciousness. ISKCON is comprised of more than 400 temples worldwide, 40 rural communities and over 100 vegetarian restaurants. It also conducts special projects throughout the world, such as 'Food for Life', the only free vegetarian relief program in the world. After attending an early-morning prayer ceremony, re-board your coach and continue on to the Sassoon Docks.

Sassoon Docks, Fish Market, Taj Mahal Palace Hotel and Breakfast

The Sassoon Docks are among the oldest docks in Mumbai, and another local sight best-seen during the early hours of the day. Built on reclaimed land by David Sassoon and completed in 1905, the docks now play host to local fishing fleets, along with one of Mumbai's largest and most famous fish markets. Observe a sea of people, heaps of fish and shellfish, local fishermen bringing in their catches, and the local fisherwomen vying to sell and auction them. Leaving the Sassoon Docks, re-board your coach and proceed for breakfast at the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. After breakfast, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
