Excursion Cueva de las palomas speleology exploration tour at Santa Cruz De La Palma

Learn about the complex volcanic geology of La Palma, then explore a cave formed by a volcanic eruption more than 70 years ago on this half day (four hours) adventure.
Embark from the pier and board your coach for the 50-minute drive to Los Llanos. Visit the Caños de Fuego Visitors Center. While at the interpretive center, learn about the 1949 eruption of the San Juan volcano that buried in ashes and lava parts of the best agriculture land in the area. Discover the scientific significance and environmental importance of the ecosystems surrounding the center, including the geological formations and adapted fauna found in the underground life.
After visiting the center, walk across the road to find the magnificent system of floating walkways that lead to the floating glass viewpoint and access to the Cueva de Las Palomas Volcanic Tube. Discover this volcanic tube that is nearly 500 meters long, three meters wide, and between one and six meters high.
Prepare yourself for one to one and half hours of spelunking pleasure.
Return to your coach for the one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility because of uneven, slippery terrain and the low ceilings of the cave. The cave temperature is about 17 degrees centigrade, and the lava floor is abrasive with some disintegration. Warm clothing and hiking boots are recommended. Sunscreen is advised for transit through the open catwalk.
