Dalmatia, Baraka Winery, Cellars, Barrels, Wine-Tasting
Your S.A.L.T. Program experience begins with a scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Baraka, a family-owned boutique winery located in the heart of Dalmatia near Šibenik. At the heart of their success is small batch winemaking, a hands-on approach, and maintaining the consistently high quality for which Baraka wines are renowned. The Baraka family is completely focused on making terroir-driven, fine wines and creating great tasting experiences. Following a warm welcome by the Baraka family, share their winemaking passion during a guided walking tour. Explore the picturesque vineyard and production process, then proceed to the cellars for a unique premium wine tasting, part of which is directly from the barrels.
Skradin Hinterland, Plastovo Village, Sladic Winery, Vineyards, Krka River, Adriatic Sea
Next, re-board your coach and head towards the Skradin hinterland en route to Plastovo Village and a visit to Sladic, a family-owned winery. Today, Ante Sladic proudly continues his family’s longstanding winemaking tradition. He utilises indigenous varieties to produce exceptional quality wines whilst respecting the environment, and preserving his family’s traditional winemaking methods and cultural heritage. The vineyards are planted just outside Plastovo on the hills above Skradin, and close to the Krka River and National Park. This area’s unique micro-climate is influenced by the Krka River and Adriatic Sea. Its location approximately 820 feet (about 250 metres) above sea level invites cool nights and warm, sunny days.
About Sladic Wines
Sladic wines are divided into three lines due to diverse soil types, locations, and viticultural practices. The family is fortunate to have such a variety of microclimate and soil types in a very small area, which allows them to create a wide range of wine styles and types. The first line comes from the vineyard planted in rich, fertile soil on the northern slope of the hill above Skradin and bordering the Krka River, giving elegance and freshness to the wines. The second line is made from grapes grown in older vineyards on skeletal soil atop the hill above Plastovo, where cool nights prevail. The terroir, low yields, selective picking, painstaking vineyard work, and meticulous attention to detail in the cellar make these wines extraordinary.
Traditional Croatian Specialities & Sladic Wine Pairings
The third line of Sladic wines embodies the extremely rocky and low-yielding terroir of the southern slope of the hill above Skradin. The typical Mediterranean climate yields heavily concentrated, full-bodied wines with an enormous aging potential. Upon arrival at the Sladic Winery, you are warmly welcome and escorted to a unique wine and food experience. Multiple courses of traditional Croatian specialities are prepared with local ingredients, and expertly paired with the wines in a tantalising blend of flavours and aromas. After lunch, your S.A.L.T. Program excursion concludes with an approximately 45 minutes drive back to the pier.
