Kotor, Scenic Drive, Bay of Kotor, Photo Stop, Nudo Village, Dabovic Winery
Your S.A.L.T. Program experience begins with a scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive along the picturesque Bay of Kotor. After a photo stop above two islands, re-board your coach and head to the small village of Nudo, a hidden gem on the border of Montenegro, Bosnia, and Herzegovina. Upon arrival in Nudo, proceed for a visit to the serene and idyllic Dabovic Winery, tucked away in a valley surrounded by Bijela Gora a massif of Orjen Mountains. Formerly known as the Imperial Vineyards, the Dabovic Winery has been in existence for over a century and still retains vine species from the time of Austria-Hungary. The award-winning wines produced here were delivered to the Royal Court in Vienna.
Family Greeting, Welcome Drink & Pastries
Your arrival at the Dabovic Winery is greeted by the Dabovic family, along with a welcome drink and local pastries. A former hotel chef, Mr. Dabovic decided to return to his village after retirement. Today, he continues his tradition of making wines and preparing meals sourced from entirely organic food grown in his own garden. His son has inherited his love for wine and brandy-making, as well as hunting, hence the wild game served during your visit. His wife and daughters remain dedicated to keeping traditional recipes alive, not to be forgotten.
Interactive 'Cicvara' Cooking Class
Next, participate in an interactive cooking class to learn how to prepare 'cicvara', a traditional dish prepared early on Christmas morning by the woman of the house. 'Cicvara' is made by blending several types of cheese, cream, and yellow flour together in a non-stop process, making the mixture shine. Afterward, each member of the family utilizes it as a mirror to see their own reflections; a custom believed to bring health and prosperity. The main dish, venison goulash, is prepared by the chef in the traditional village style with secret ingredients. All food prepared and served is organic, and sourced from their own garden and local farms. Organic wines from the vineyard are paired according to the types of dishes served during your visit.
Lunch with Wine, Winery Tour
In the room where your delicious lunch with wine is served, see the many prestigious medals and awards the outstanding Dabovic Winery has earned at wine exhibitions and contests. After lunch, take a guided walking tour of the Dabovic Winery. Along the way, you can sample grapes or fresh fruit directly from the vines or trees, as the winery is 100% organic and pesticide-free. After basking in the warmth of your guests, their unique flavours, and lovely surrounds, your S.A.L.T. Program excursion concludes with an approximately 90-minutes drive back to the pier.
