Excursion Quimper & locronan: a taste of brittany tour at Douarnenez

Drive to Quimper for a walking guided visit of the city. Quimper, once completely walled, has retained the aspect of a medieval town. The layout of the city center is dominated by the twin spires of the Cathedral Saint Corentin. Trade men's districts alleyways and timber framed houses stand side by side with aristocratic mansions and the initial traces of urbanization which began in the 18th century.

Starting from the banks of the Odet River, enter Breton history and culture while strolling with your guide trough typical streets and places of the old city center. Enjoy timber framed houses and other granit mansions. Visit Saint Corentin cathedral, originally constructed between the 13th and 15th centuries, and symbolizing the wealth and the originality of Gothic art in Brittany. Admire its fine and authentic stain glasses windows and discover who the enigmatic "Santig Du" was.

Reach Locronan, a lovely medieval village, listed as one of the most picturesque in France. The village once prospered from sailcloth manufacturing. Traces of its Golden age are to be found in its granite houses built during the Renaissance, old well, large church and pretty chapel. Have lunch in a creperie to taste this famous Breton specialty: la crêpe!

After lunch, enjoy a walking guided visit: your guide will tell you the whole story of Saint Ronan. The 15th century church is remarkable for its stone vaulting. The pulpit decoration relates the life of saint Ronan and the 15th century stained glasses depict scenes of the passion. After the visit, leisure time will be allowed to discover the fine houses and the craft workshops. You might also be tempted to taste the famous "kouing amann", a traditional Breton butter cake, at the famous Le Guillou bakery.
