Excursion Pedra bonita hike tour at Rio de Janeiro
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Set out for an invigorating hike on Pedra Bonita, a mountain best known as Rio de Janeiro’s iconic hang-gliding launch point. Rising above the city at 517 meters (1,700 feet), this area offers some of the most expansive and rewarding views in Rio. From the trailhead, begin a moderate, approximately 45-minute hike to the summit, gaining elevation through natural terrain surrounded by Atlantic Forest vegetation.
At the 695-meter (2,200-foot) summit, take in breathtaking panoramas stretching across the city and coastline. Facing south, admire the dramatic granite face of Pedra da Gávea and the vast Atlantic Ocean beyond. Looking east, spot the Rocinha community and the twin peaks of Dois Irmãos, appearing surprisingly small from this elevated viewpoint. To the west, views open toward Barra da Tijuca, one of Rio’s most modern districts, known for its wide beaches and rapid development since the 1970s.
After enjoying time at the summit, descend slightly to the hang-gliding departure ramp, where paragliders and hang gliders launch into the sky. From this dramatic platform, observe the thrill of flight and gain a new perspective on Rio’s unique blend of mountains, forest, and ocean. This active experience offers both physical challenge and unforgettable scenery before returning to the city below.
