Excursion Paradise cave tour at Dong My

Make a morning visit to Paradise Cave in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, selected in 2003 as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park contains the oldest karst mountains in Asia, formed approximately 400 million years ago. After serious exploration beginning in the 1990s Paradise Cave was discovered in 2005 and at 31 km in length, it is the longest dry cave in Asia.

Transfer from the quayside by bus and take a buggy ride to reach the cave entrance. As you enter the cave mouth, marvel at the beautiful stalactites and other formations, some even resembling glass pillars. Follow the wooden walkway through the cave's many chambers, which reach as high as 100 meters.

After exploring Paradise Cave stop at Ho Khanh House, named after Mr. Ho Khanh, the man who discovered Son Doong (as Paradise Cave is called) when working as an illegal logger in the 1990s. Mr. Ho Kanh aided a group of researchers in 2009 in re-discovering the cave, and he now serves as a guide for the team to explore caves in the area. He is now a conservationist recognized for his efforts to help his former companions to give up illegal logging and to turn to sustainable tourism business. Spend some time at Mr. Ho Kanh's homestay and chat with him over a cold, refreshing beer before heading back to Dong My.

Please note: This tour requires walking on uneven ground, sometimes bent over inside of caves, and is therefore not recommended for guests with limited mobility or those who utilize a wheelchair. Casual clothes and sneakers are recommended, as well as sunscreen, sunglasses, and hat.
