Excursion Panoramic of algiers tour at Algiers

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

You board your coach and for a drive up to Victory Park to view the imposing Martyrs Monument, the most dominant landmark which is probably the first thing you see as you are sailing into the port of Algiers. The views from here are spectacular.

You will drive through the busy streets of Algiers and your guide will indicate the points of interest on your way to "La Grande Poste" for a photo stop. Located in the heart of the city, this is a great piece of history and a monumental structure in neo-Moorish architecture. The Islamic style decoration and columns are an amazing sight, looking quite unlike a post office and more like a mosque.

You re-board your coach for a short drive to the lively Bab El Oued district. Here, you will view from a distance, the striking Basilica of Notre Dame D' Afrique (Our Lady of Africa), which lies on a promontory overlooking the bay of Algiers. Inaugurated in 1872, the Basilica of Algiers is seen by many as a symbol of religious tolerance in a country which is Muslim. A unique inscription inside reads: "Notre Dame d' Afrique priez pour nous et pour les Musulmans", meaning "Our Lady of Africa, pray for us and for the Muslims".
