Excursion Newcastle on your own tour at Newcastle upon Tyne

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Experience the splendid historic sights and architecture of Newcastle at your leisure during this half-day, self-guided sightseeing excursion.

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to Newcastle, a vibrant and friendly city with a heritage dating back 2,000 years. Upon arrival at Newcastle's city centre, leave the coach by the Laing Art Gallery and begin your self-guided sightseeing excursion. Spend approximately 3 hours exploring the landmarks and shops of Newcastle at your leisure, and perhaps have an early lunch on your own.

The city's principal buildings and attractions include the elegant golden sandstone architecture of Grainger Town, the historic heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. Built around classical streets dating from the 1830s and 1840s, a large percentage of the buildings here are listed as being of historical and architectural importance. Highlights include the historic St. Nicholas Cathedral, dating from the 14th and 15th centuries, Grey's Monument, a landmark meeting-place for locals and visitors since its erection in 1838, and the six bridges spanning the River Tyne.

At the conclusion of your self-guided visit to Newcastle, meet your coach at the pre-determined time and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.
