Batu Islands is a group of islands that has three main islands and forty-eight smaller ones, about twenty of which are inhabited. The islands are generally low and forested, notably with coconut palm and copra. The administrative center of the Batu Islands is Pualu Telo, your destination today.


The Batu (or Telos) Islands are located on the equator and are known worldwide to surfers for the special waves found along their shores. The Islanders' lives are centered on the village. This is a very friendly people with a distinct, vibrant culture with a mix of Christian, Islamic and animist beliefs, many of which are cloaked in mystery and superstition that is interesting to witness.


Your shore excursion begins with disembarking at Pulau Telo harbor to meet with a local guide. With them, visit a local market and elementary school to spend time with local school children. Visit the village compound to get first-hand insight into the traditional lifestyle of the local peoples. Upon arrival at the village be welcomed by villagers in their traditional attire and enjoy their traditional cultural performance. Return to port after a full morning of exploration.
