Excursion Mount etna tour at Catania

Majestic Mt. Etna, rising to a height of 10,800 feet, is an impressive and famous landmark. Enjoy a scenic drive along the coast and the slopes of this magnificent volcano.

On the way to Mt. Etna, enjoy the delightful countryside of vineyards and orchards. The winding road then slopes upward and passes through vast lava fields all the way to the Silvestri Craters, almost 6,000 feet above sea level. Take advantage of this opportunity to walk along the edge of these craters and imagine how they appeared thousands of years ago when filled with hot lava. More than 100 eruptions have been recorded since the 4th-century BC. Caution is advised when walking across lava and rocky ground, where crevices still exude fumes and heat. Re-board your coach for the drive back down through the lava fields to the pier in Catania.

Please Note: Operation of the tour is subject to the volcano's activity. We recommend you wear comfortable clothing and bring along a light jacket or sweater as temperatures can become quite cool at the higher altitudes. We also recommend flat, comfortable, closed-toe shoes. This excursion is not recommended for guests with heart or respiratory conditions. Those with walking difficulties or those who utilise a wheelchair and cannot visit the Crateri Silverstri may opt to visit the local restaurants and shops in front of the coach parking area.
