Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience the wonderful flavours, art, and architecture of Reus City during this immersive, half-day sightseeing excursion.
Tarragona, Reus City
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 30-minute drive to Reus City, birthplace of luminaries such as the architect Antoni Gaudi, painter Mariano Fortuny, sculptor Joan Rebull, and General Joan Prim, among others. During the 18th century, Reus was the second-most important Catalan city after Barcelona due to its textile industry and strong trading of Vermouth; the city is recognized as the 'Capital of Vermouth'.
Guided Walking Tour, Modernist Architecture, Antoni Gaudi's Childhood Home, Church, and School
Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of downtown Reus, birthplace of Antoni Gaudi. Along the way, see interesting buildings from Gaudi's childhood, and those designed by famous architects of Catalan Modernism, including Lluís Domènech and Montaner, who created emblematic buildings in Barcelona such as the Sant Pau Hospital and Palau de la Música Catalana. From here, delve into Gaudi's history and childhood during exterior visits to the Iglesia Prioral de San Pedro, where Gaudi was baptised, the primary school he attended, and his childhood home.
Vermouth Bar-Museum, a Taste of Vermouth
Next, explore Reus' connection with the vermouth industry during a visit of the Vermouth Bar-Museum. During the stop, hear about the origins of vermouth in Reus and curiosities from the collection. The venue displays objects related to vermouth that the owner has personally selected, including 1,300 bottles, 3,000 labels, and 300 posters. The guide will give the explanations from outside, and you are then free to have a tour inside on your own before having a glass of vermouth accompanied by small snacks.
Your tour concludes with an approximately 30-minute drive back to the pier.
