Discover the secrets to preparing mouth-watering dark chocolate bars during an interactive chocolate-making class at the renowned Howelton Estate.
Castries, Howelton Estate, Interactive Chocolate-Making Class
Depart the pier for the short drive to the renowned, late-19th-century Howelton Estate. Upon arrival, proceed for a guided, tree-to-bar, chocolate-making class. This memorable class begins with the manual grinding of cocoa nibs, which have been broken down from dried trinitario beans grown on the island. Saint Lucia's trinitario cocoa beans are treasured by renowned chocolatiers for their aromatic indulgencies on one's senses. Under the guidance of the house chocolatier, use a mortar and pestle to grind the nibs until they transform into liquefied chocolate. The breakdown process can take up to 45 minutes. Along the way, you can add in personal touches of desired flavours to create a unique, signature bar.

Throughout the class, learn about the many fascinating health benefits of trinitario dark chocolate. A 20-minute cooling-down period allows the liquefied chocolate to solidify after it has been put into its mould. During the break, you can take in spectacular panoramic views of the city, enjoy a beverage from the Cellar Bar or browse the duty-free gift shop. Following the break, class resumes and the end result is a beautiful, approximately 1.75-ounce (about 50-gram) dark chocolate bar that is foil-wrapped and presented to you to take home as perhaps your most distinctive souvenir of Saint Lucia. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
