Excursion Hiking le palais and vauban fountain tour at Belle Île

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Visit beautiful Brittany on this half-day (three hours) guided walking tour. Explore a portion of the historic 2,000-kilometer GR 34 Customs Path, the most famous of the Grande Randonnée long-distance footpaths. Behold the stunning sea views as you breathe in the fresh ocean air.

Embark from the pier to begin the 15-minute stroll to your coach. Settle in for a 30-minute drive to the hamlet of Belle Fontaine where you kick off the 90-minute hiking tour. Begin at the Aiguade de Vauban cistern. Discover this strange though photogenic building, built in 1703, where boats came to resupply drinking water. Learn the significance of this historical monument that can hold as much as 860,000 liters of water; only two constructions of this type survive to this day in France.

Continue your saunter along the coastal Customs Path to the capital of the Belle Ile, Le Palais. Enjoy a short, guided visit in the village, home to the imposing Vauban Citadel that overlooks the harbor. Experience the waterfront, lively with the comings and goings of fishermen, ferries, and leisure boats.

Depart Palais on foot to promenade another 15 minutes as you find your way back to the pier.
