Excursion Hike monte basil tour at Angra do Heroísmo

Discover Monte Brasil, a protected natural area that is both an extinct volcano and a peninsula, on this half-day (three-hour) guided hiking adventure.

Embark from the pier and board your coach for the short drive to Monte Brasil. Arrive at Relvão Park, site of the Castle of São João Baptista (Saint John the Baptist). This important fort was built in the Philippine Dynasty at the end of the sixteenth century.

Hit the trailhead here for your 7.5 kilometers (4.3-mile) guided hike around Monte Brasil. Explore the remnants of this tuff (ash solidified to rock) volcano located on the south coast of the lovely island of Terceira. Climb up the volcano and take in the extraordinary views of the bay, Angra do Heroismo, and surrounding islands. Bring your camera for this outstanding photo opportunity. As you walk, listen for the animals that live in the reserve and witness the flora that includes notable tree and shrub species.

Complete the trail circuit and find yourself back at Relvão Park after about two and half hours. Reboard your coach for the drive back to the pier.
