Excursion Greenough wildlife & historical sights tour at Perth
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Depart the pier and enjoy a scenic, approximately 30-minute drive south through the picturesque coastal and rural landscapes of Western Australia to the historic town of Greenough, located about 15 miles (24 kilometres) from Geraldton. Known as one of the best-preserved heritage towns in the country, Greenough offers a fascinating glimpse into Australia’s colonial past with its beautifully restored 19th-century stone buildings - including a gaol, courthouse, police station, churches, and a school — that once served a bustling farming community.
Greenough Wildlife and Bird Park
Your first stop is the charming Greenough Wildlife and Bird Park, a family-run sanctuary that provides a safe and caring home for a variety of native Australian animals and rescued wildlife. Here, you’ll have the rare opportunity to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most iconic creatures, including kangaroos, emus, dingoes, and wombats. The park is also home to a colourful array of birdlife - from cockatoos and parrots to owls and peacocks - many of which have been rehabilitated and now live peacefully within the grounds.
Historic Greenough
After your visit to the wildlife park, your journey continues with a look into the historic heart of Greenough, where the stories of early settlers and colonial life await.
Your journey through the region's rich past continues with a visit to the Greenough Historical Settlement -a beautifully preserved collection of stone buildings that offers a vivid window into 19th-century life on the Greenough Flats. As you wander on your own through the settlement, you'll gain a deep appreciation for the resilience and ingenuity of the early European settlers who carved out a community in this remote and windswept landscape. Enjoy time to explore key heritage structures, including the old schoolhouse, church, and courthouse, all lovingly maintained to reflect their original charm and character.
To complement the experience, a delightful morning tea will be served on the grounds of the settlement, a chance to relax and reflect on the stories of pioneer life while surrounded by the tranquil Western Australian countryside.
After your visit, rejoin your coach for a leisurely, scenic drive back to the pier, with newfound insight into the region’s fascinating colonial history.
