Fishguard, Welsh Countryside, Picton Castle, Magnificent Gardens

Depart the pier and drive through the glorious Welsh countryside to Picton Castle. Nestled amidst approximately 40 acres (about 16.2 hectares) of magnificent gardens, Picton Castle is perhaps the most unusual ancient building in Britain; half of the building was designed as a fortified manor house, and the other half a fully-developed medieval castle. Built in the 13th century by Sir John Wogan, the castle is still the family home of his descendants, carrying the name of Philipps since the 15th century although no longer residing here.

Main Drive, Welcome Reception with Sparkling Wine and Canapes, Castle Tour, Great Hall

Upon arrival at Picton Castle, proceed down the main drive, once used by Her Majesty the Queen & His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh for their visit in 2014. Next, enjoy an exclusive 'Director's Tour' of the castle, which includes the history of the castle and family, and a detailed look at their collections. Your visit begins with a glass of sparkling wine and canapes whilst the director gives a welcome talk. Afterward, a guided walking tour enables you to experience the rare opportunity of visiting areas of the castle not normally open to the public. Explore the Great Hall and nearby rooms whilst discussing the castle with the director.

Free Time, Woodland Walks, Trees, Ferns, Wildflowers, Walled Garden

Following your tour, some free time is made available for independent exploration. Picton Castle is home to some of the most beautiful woodland gardens and grounds in West Wales. You may opt to take a stroll beneath some of the largest and oldest trees in Wales, and discover the woodland walks, ferns and abundant feast of wildflowers that blend with unusual woodland shrubs from all corners of the world. Marvel at rare species of rhododendrons and visit the Walled Garden, an enchanting palate of colour in the summer months with its elegant fountain, rose-strewn arches and medicinal herbs, all labelled with their remedies. Alternatively, you may prefer to simply relax in this truly beautiful and historic property. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.
