Singaraja, Royal Palace and Gedong Kirtya Library
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 1.5-hour drive to Singaraja, the former capital city of Bali Province during the Dutch occupation of the island. Upon arrival, visit the Royal Palace of Singaraja. This historical palace, often referred as the 'Puri Agung Gede', was built in 1604. Following a guided walking tour of the palace, walk to the adjacent Gedong Kirtya Library. This wonderful library houses about 3,000 lontar books and Balinese manuscripts.
Ling Gwan Kiong Buddhist Temple
Your last stop is at the sacred Ling Gwan Kiong Buddhist Temple. Built in 1873, this beautifully constructed, red- and gold-coloured 'klentang' is accessible via a water bridge over a pond filled with pink and white lotus flowers. Gold Buddha statues and ornamentally decorated textiles are found everywhere. At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 1.5-hour drive back to the pier.
Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 219 yards (about 200 metres), at times over uneven and cobblestone surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and eight steps at the Royal Palace of Singaraja, 10 steps at the Gedong Kirtya Library, and 12 steps at the Buddhist Temple. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair.
