Excursion Casapueblo and its private atelier tour at Punta Del Este
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Scenic one hour-long drive through this upscale resort, passing through residential areas: Cantegril and San Rafael. Your drive will next take you past some of Punta's natural wonders - the beaches. Stop at Punta Ballena for sweeping views of the coastline, before ending your drive at Casapueblo, the home and atelier of the late internationally renowned artist, Carlos Paez Vilaró. The dazzling white complex, a unique construction with curved walls, is located on a rocky cliff overlooking the Ocean. Paez Vilaró built it in 1958 with his own hands, using only traditional tools.
Narrow steps lead to a maze of rooms distributed on different levels and filled with the artist's art work. Visit to Carlos Paez Vilaró's private atelier, located in the highest dome of Casapueblo, its maximum architectural creation, on the rocky cliffs of Punta Ballena. For the first time, it opens only for special groups, the atelier of the Uruguayan artist. This tour is not available to the general public. The museum curator will join you on the tour. On the private terrace facing the sea, named "Terraza de Plácido Domingo" - in honor of the Spanish tenor who was in the place next to Páez Vilaró - you can enjoy a glass of champagne or orange juice.
After visiting Casapueblo, return to pier (approximately 30 minutes).
Note
Please note: Lightweight clothing, comfortable walking shoes, a hat, sunscreen and water are recommended. This excursion is not suitable for guests with limited mobility, due to uneven surfaces and over 100 stairs at Casapueblo and Atelier. Flash photography is not allowed in some areas of Casapueblo's Atelier.
