Buzet, Walking Tour, Free Time

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one-hour drive over Ucka Mountain en route to the Istria Peninsula to visit the town of Buzet. Surrounded by green hills, mysterious canyons, flower meadows and pastures, and cold springs, Buzet is in the territory of the prized Istrian truffles. The area is also renowned for its excellent olive oil, exquisite wines and distinctive Istrian grappa which evokes the spirit of this ancient region. Upon arrival, take a guided, uphill walk to explore the town in its full glory. Buzet is situated on a hill above the green Mirna River, and overlooks hundreds of small stone villages that have been connected for centuries. Following a guided stroll here, enjoy some free time to explore your surrounds.

Aura Tasting House Tour and Tasting

Afterward, proceed to the Aura Tasting House, which produces traditional gourmet products. Once there, join a tour of the premises and indulge in a tasting of their unique delicacies. Their products include jams made from nettle, mint, dandelion, sage, elder, fig, plum, or cornel; brandies aged for three years, including those made with native herbs or even wild pear or wild apple; and the local biska, derived from white mistletoe picked exclusively from the apple tree. Enjoy a well-rounded, delicious tasting including jams, different styles of brandies, various flavored dark chocolates and a variety of cookies – it’s a true introduction into the region’s best gastronomic delights.

After the tasting, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate amount of walking for approximately 875 yards (about 800 metres), at times over uneven, gravel, and cobblestone surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach and at the sites visited. Walking in Buzet is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests must be at least eight years old to participate on this tour.
