Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive to Flora y Fauna Indígena, an organisation dedicated to the education, research, cultivation, and preservation of Uruguay’s endemic flora and fauna. Upon arrival, take a guided hike along the senderos de flora y fauna (walking trails of flora and fauna). This wonderful setting offers unique opportunities for nature lovers to experience the country’s rich, native biodiversity from up-close. Learn about the flora and fauna, and their own special characteristics, scents, textures, and flavours.
Woodlands, Grasslands, Countryside & Hills Views, Woodlands, Microclimate, Plant Tastings
Begin with a walk through a verdant forest of native and exotic trees. Along the way, understand and appreciate the importance of preserving Uruguay’s native flora. A short hike then leads to the grasslands for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding countryside and hills. The trail continues into the gallery of woodlands along the streams, then enters a special microclimate. A stop is made in this area to taste some plants, and learn about their medicinal uses and other secrets.
Visitors’ Centre, Refreshments & Snacks
Following your guided hike through these natural and peaceful environments, proceed to the Visitors’ Centre, which was built in harmony with permaculture principles and is a work of art itself. Upon arrival, relax with delicious lemonade, native herbal tea, and small bites. At the conclusion of your tour, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.

Please note: This tour involves an extensive amount of walking for approximately 1.86 miles (about three kilometres), at times over uneven and natural surfaces and inclines, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Walking at the Visitors’ Centre is at the discretion of each guest. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Guests are advised to wear lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes, and bring sun protection, a sweater or light jacket, bottled water, and US Dollars or local currency as there is a donation box for he preservation of the park. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, wildlife sightings are not guaranteed. The hike includes crossing a river on foot and over a hanging bridge. Depending on the local water conditions, you may have to cross the river with water up to your knees. For the crossing, it is recomneded to bring water shoes and a small towel.
