Excursion Skagen highlights tour at Skagen

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Explore the local charm and landmarks of Skagen during a half-day excursion to this historic town and its lovely environs.

Skagen, Artists' Homes and Brøndum Hotel

Depart the pier for a short, guided walking tour through Skagen Town. Along the way, pass by the charming homes of local painters and artists such as Anna and Michael Anchers, and Holger Drachmann. Continue past the famous, tiny Brøndum Hotel, a favourite haunt of the mid-19th-century 'Skagen Painters'. Their light, summery artwork is displayed in many national and international homes and museums.

Grenen Train-Ride, Old Skagen and Buried Church

Next, board a coach for the short drive to Grenen. Upon arrival, board the Sandormen, or 'Sand Worm' mini-train, for a panoramic ride to the highest point in Denmark. Following your ride and a souvenir stop, re-board your coach for the drive to Old Skagen. Here, a visit is made to the Buried Church. One of the nation's most curious attractions, this old church is buried in a wandering sand dune, and only the upper two-thirds of its tower is visible. At the conclusion of your visit, commence the approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier.
