A Scenic Drive to a Traditional Lunch & Authentic Japanese Lunch Experience

After immersing yourself in the history of Shirakawago, it’s time to refuel. Enjoy a 50-minute drive through the countryside as you make your way to a local restaurant, passing rice paddies and forested hills along the way. Savor a delicious meal at a local Japanese restaurant.

Journey to Etchu Gokayama, Etchu Iwase-ke House or similar

Hop back on the bus for a 40-minute drive to Gokayama, another well-preserved UNESCO - listed village, known for its well-preserved ghasso-zukuri houses, similar to Shirakawago but with a more secluded and tranquil atmosphere. Take a leisurely walk through this picturesque village, where you’ll find beautifully preserved thatched-roof homes and learn about the history of the Iwase family. This stop offers a deeper look into the traditional lifestyle of rural Japan. Here, take the opportunity to visit Etchu Iwase - ke House, a historic residence, once home to a prominent family, offering a glimpse into Edo-period architecture and daily life.

A Short Drive to Ainokura Village, Capturing the Charm of Ainokura Village

Enjoy a quick 20-minute transfer as you make your way to the final village stop of the day, Ainokura, yet another stunning UNESCO-listed site. Take a 100-meter stroll to a scenic viewpoint, where you’ll capture postcard-worthy photos of Ainokura’s gassho-style houses against the dramatic mountain backdrop. A Relaxing Drive Back to Port

As the day winds down, re-board the your coach and enjoy a 1 hour 15-minute drive back to the port. Relax and take in the stunning mountain views as you reminisce about your journey through Japan’s most scenic and historic villages.

Please note: This tour involves a moderate to extensive amount of walking (approximately 2.2km or 1.36miles) over cobblestones and unpaved walkways, with around 20 steps at the various sites and a few to negotiate to get on/off the coach. This tour is not suitable for guests with limited mobility and guests who utilise a wheelchair. Lightweight, comfortable clothing, flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended. Guests will need to take off your shoes in Kandake House or similar and Etchu Iwase - ke house. For dietary restrictions please contact the on-board Shore Concierge Team upon embarkation.
