Excursion Scenic faroes tour at Torshavn
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Explore the capital and largest city of the Faroe Islands during this panoramic, half-day sightseeing excursion to Tórshavn and its surrounds.
Tórshavn, Eidi and Funning Viewpoints, and Scenic Bridge
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 45-minute drive north, past idyllic villages, en route to photo stops at the Eidi and Funning viewpoints. During your stops, see 'the only bridge over the Atlantic', as it is sometimes called, which spans the narrow channel of Sundini to connect Eysturoy with the larger island of Streymoy. Because the channel is so narrow, spectacular eddies form at the base of the bridge when the current is running strong with the tide. During your visit, you are invited to walk the short distance, 'over the Atlantic'.
Sea Stacks and Slættaratindur Mountain
Next, re-board your coach, continue past Eidi and cross the mountains to Gjógv Village. Along the way, take in a splendid view of two very distinctive sea stacks known as 'The Giant and the Hag', and pass by the highest mountain in the Faroe Islands, the approximately 2,894-foot-high (about 882-metre-high) Slættaratindur.
Gjógv Village, Refreshments and Tórshavn Viewpoint
Upon arrival in Gjógv Village, see the approximately 617-foot-long (about 188-metre-long) gorge that serves as a natural harbour for fishing boats, and stop for cake and coffee at a local guesthouse. Following your visit, re-board your coach and head to the Tórshavn Viewpoint, which overlooks the capital. After a brief photo stop here, re-board your coach and commence the short drive back to the pier.
