Excursion Santiago de compostela tour at La Coruna

A Coruna (La Coruña) is an important coastal town of Galicia and has the oldest Roman lighthouse still in use (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). Be out on deck early in the morning to see it while Silver Cloud approaches the harbor.

Today's excursion takes you to the city of Santiago de Compostela and its Cathedral is the final destination of the legendary pilgrimage of "Camino de Santiago" or Way of Saint James. It is one of three pilgrimages on which all sins could be forgiven; the others are the Via Francigena to Rome, and the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Santiago is important because it is believed to be the burial site of the apostle, James the Great. Inscribed as a UNESCO a World Heritage Site in 1993, today it attracts more than just religious pilgrims thanks to its fantastic monuments and architecture.

As "any path to Santiago is a pilgrim's path," depart the pier in Coruna for the just over one hour journey to Santiago. Upon arrival to the cathedral, and after a comfort stop, begin your guided. Your guide will make us a full description of the Obradoiro Square where stands the Cathedral. the Townhall. the Pazo (Palace of Saint Jerome and the Hotel of the Reyes Catolicos. This last building built as a Hospital for pilgrims during the reign of the Catholic kings in the XV century, today is one of the most beautiful hotels in its class.

You will visit the Cathedral and discover all about a destination so important in the world, with many pilgrims and visitors coming to the city as tourism or as their final destination after days of walking along the "Camino".

At the Parador you will taste nice tapas, wine, etc while you enjoy a folklore performance.

After some free time to wonder on you own you will return to La Coruna.

Please note: This tour includes some uneven cobblestone surfaces, moderate walking and a modest number of steps, making it less suitable for guests with limited mobility or in a wheelchair. Knees and shoulders are recommended to be covered inside the Cathedral. Lightweight, comfortable clothing and flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection are recommended.
