Excursion Råbjerg mile & eagle world tour at Skagen
Cruise line: SilverseaDifficulty:
Experience the spectacular scenery of Denmark's largest migrating sand dune and a breath-taking show of birds of prey during this unforgettable, half-day excursion.
Eagle World
Depart the pier for the short, scenic drive to Eagle World. Upon arrival, view the photo and falconry exhibits in the showrooms, observe the world's largest eagles being fed and feel the whirr of wings overhead. Next, marvel at the flying skills of lightning-quick peregrine falcons, learn about the falcon hunt and see the falconers train the birds.
Råbjerg Mile
Following your visit, re-board your coach for the drive to the nearby Råbjerg Mile, the largest migrating sand dune in Denmark and northern Europe. Formed on the west coast during the great sand drift that dominated the landscape from the 16th to 19th centuries, the Råbjerg Mile moved eastward at a rate of approximately 49 feet (15 metres) a year. During your visit, you may opt to climb to the top of the 656-foot (200-metre) sand dune, which offers splendid panoramic vistas and photo opportunities.
Old Skagen, Damstederne and Klitgården
Your tour concludes with an approximately 45-minute drive back to the pier. En route, drive through Old Skagen. Originally a small fishing hamlet, Old Skagen has been a fashionable Danish holiday resort since the turn of the 20th century. From here, pass by the Damstederne area, Klitgården, formerly a summer residence for royals, and the Skagen Museum.
