Excursion Merja zerga birding & wetlands tour at Casablanca

Travel south from Casablanca to the stunning Merja Zerga Lagoon, recognized as one of Morocco's vital wetlands and a sanctuary for migratory birds. This Ramsar designated site is situated along the East Atlantic Flyway, drawing thousands of waterbirds year-round, including flamingos, herons, egrets, spoonbills, avocets, and various duck and wader species. Upon your arrival, you will be accompanied by a local naturalist guide to explore the lagoon's rich habitats. Depending on the conditions, you can observe birds from designated viewing areas and along the wetland's shores while gaining insights into the ecological importance of the region and ongoing conservation initiatives. The serene landscape, featuring reed beds, sandbars, mudflats, and open water, offers fantastic opportunities for wildlife observation and photography. After your birdwatching experience, take some time to soak in the lagoon's natural beauty before heading back to Casablanca.

Please note: This tour is primarily focused on birdwatching and nature observation, and wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed. A moderate amount of walking and standing for approximately 2 km (1.25 miles) over mostly flat but uneven natural terrain, including dirt paths and sandy surfaces, with a few steps to negotiate to get on/off the coach. Due to the nature of the terrain, this tour may not be suitable for guests with limited mobility.

. Lightweight comfortable clothing and walking shoes are recommended, as well as a sunhat, sunglasses, and sunscreen. Binoculars are highly recommended. Guests are informed tips to local guides and drivers are at guest’s discretion.

 We suggest wearing layered clothing and comfortable walking shoes, and bringing sun protection and a hat. Bird activity varies according to the season, weather, and tidal conditions. Restroom facilities may be limited while at the wetland reserve.
