In its present form it is an outstanding example of a medieval fortified town, with its massive defences encircling the castle and the surrounding buildings, its streets and its fine Gothic cathedral.

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximate two-hour drive along the highway to Carcassonne where your guide will give you the tips and the major useful historical and important information about this magnificent walled -in city.

Upon arrival, your guide will provide an engaging orientation to this historic city, pointing out major highlights and offering helpful tips for your self-guided exploration. The towering ramparts, turreted towers, and medieval stone streets of Carcassonne have stood for centuries, watching over empires and eras gone by. After the orientation, enjoy approximately 3½ hours of free time to dine at one of the charming cafés, visit the imposing Château Comtal, browse artisan shops, or simply stroll and absorb the atmosphere of this timeworn marvel.

After your journey through medieval history, rejoin your coach for the relaxing return trip to Collioure. A comfort stop en route offers a chance to stretch your legs before arriving back at the port in time to board your ship.
