Discover the heritage of Slovenia’s famed Lipizzaner horses during this scenic, half-day excursion to the Lipica Stud Farm.
Countryside Drive and Arrival at Lipica
Depart the pier for the approximately 45-minute drive through the Slovenian countryside en route to the Lipica Stud Farm. Founded in 1580 by Archduke Karl II of Austria, the estate has bred and perfected the Lipizzaner horses for over four centuries, and today they are considered a national symbol of Slovenia.
Guided Walking Tour of the Estate
Upon arrival, meet your guide and begin a walking tour of the estate’s lush grounds and historic facilities. Learn about the origins of the stud farm, its ties to the Habsburg court, and the enduring legacy of this noble breed.
Training Session of the Lipizzaners
Next, proceed to the riding hall to attend an official training session. Here, the prized white stallions are put through haute école classical dressage, including the celebrated aerial maneuvers known as the “Airs Above the Ground.” Watch in admiration as horse and rider display their precision, strength, and grace.
Local Delicacies and Free Time
Following the performance, enjoy a sampling of local Karst products, including prosciutto, cheese, and a glass of wine or juice. Some free time is then made available to browse for Slovenian souvenirs before re-boarding your coach for the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
