Excursion Kirkjubour, historical museum and tinganes walk tour at Torshavn

Drive to Kirkjubøur, the ecclesiastical and cultural center of the Faroe Islands during the Middle Ages and site of the bishop's residence prior to the Reformation. Take in the imposing ruin of Saint Magnus Cathedral that still dominates landscape. Learn about its construction, thought to have begun in the late-thirteenth century based upon the Gothic architecture. Visit the 900-year-old Roykstovan, both a museum and a home to centuries of Kirkjubøur farmers.
Next, continue to the National History Museum. Be immersed in Faroese yore covering the millennium between the Viking Age to modern times.
Continue to historic Tórshavn, the capital of the Faroe Islands. Visit the historical core of the city known as Tinganes, thought to be one of the oldest, if not the oldest, parliamentary meeting places in the world. Take a guided walk through the narrow streets, between the old houses with traditional turf roofs, and hear about this seat of Viking governmental process that began around the year 900.
