Excursion Jozani forest & seaweed farm tour at Zanzibar

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Discover Zanzibar's sole national park, the Jozani Forest Nature Reserve, during this full-day excursion. Accompany your guide as you traverse the trails and mangrove boardwalk in this diverse natural habitat. If luck is on your side, you might encounter the rare, endemic, and endangered Red Colobus Monkey. With a population of fewer than 2,000, these monkeys are exclusive to the main island of Zanzibar. Additionally, the park is home to other protected wildlife, including the Sykes monkey, bush babies, over 50 species of butterflies, and 40 species of birds.

Savor a local lunch at a beachside restaurant that boasts stunning views before proceeding to a seaweed farm in the picturesque village of Paje. Here, you will learn about this economic initiative that is becoming increasingly vital to Zanzibar's economic health, even surpassing spices. Visit the Seaweed Center for an informative briefing, then enjoy a leisurely walk along the beach. Observe local seaweed farmers at work or participate in their activities in the saltwater. Gain first-hand insight into this crucial endeavor that supports the livelihoods of the villagers. In the late afternoon, board your coach for the drive back to port.

Note

Please note: This excursion is not recommended for guests with limited mobility as it involves wading through water, climbing stairs, and walking on uneven terrain and beach sand. Zanzibar is predominantly Muslim; all guests should be conservatively dressed, with shoulders and knees covered. Photographing individuals in uniforms is strictly prohibited to respect their privacy and security. Always ask for permission before taking any photos of individuals. Please check with your guide if you are unsure about photographing someone. As in the tropics, the temperatures and humidity can be quite high. Lightweight, comfortable clothing with flat, closed-toe walking shoes and sun protection is recommended. Water shoes for wading at the seaweed farm are advisable. Although frequently encountered on this type of tour, wildlife sightings are not guaranteed.
