Experience some of the some of the most beautiful gardens and rainforests on Kauai, and around the world, during this unforgettable, half-day sightseeing excursion with lunch.
Nawiliwili, Spouting Horn, Blowhole, Southern Coast, Poipu, Allerton Garden & Estate
Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately 35-minute drive to Kauai's famous blowhole, Spouting Horn, where waves crashing against the lava rock can funnel spray as high as 50 feet (about 15 metres). After a stop here to watch this blowhole in action, re-board your coach and head to Poipu, on the southern coast of Kauai, for a visit to the Allerton Garden. This renowned estate is part of a national network of five public gardens, each dedicated to preserving endangered plant species. Three of these gardens, including the Allerton Garden and McBryde Garden, are located on the 'Garden Island' of Kauai. National Geographic has described the Allerton Garden as 'One of the World's 50 Must-See Destinations'.
Gates, Cliff-Top & Bay Views, Outdoor Rooms, Pools, Fountains, Sculptures, Beach, Estate House
Upon arrival, pass through the gates of the Allerton Garden and wind past dramatic, cliff-top views of the protected bay below. During a guided tour of this once-private estate, explore the extraordinary beauty of one of the world's premier, Congressionally-chartered botanical research foundations. Stroll through outdoor rooms and see rippling pools, fountains, and dramatic sculptures. This masterpiece of landscape architecture and garden art was created in the early-20th century; today, it is often described as a living work of art. Take a stroll along the Lawa'i Stream to the Allerton Estate House, located at the inlet of the stream and beach. Along the way, breathe in the ocean air and relax to the sounds of the waves.
Upper-Lawa'i Valley, McBryde Garden, Rare Plant Species, Gazebo, Lunch, Floral Trail, Waterfall
Next, re-board your coach and head deeper into the Upper-Lawa'i Valley to the McBryde Garden, home to the largest collection of Hawaiian flora in the world. Here, more than 250 acres (about 101 hectares) of conservation research land are home to more than 6,000 rare and endangered plant species collected from throughout the Pacific Basin and world. After a delightful deli lunch in a garden gazebo, take a short, leisurely stroll along a lush trail. See the rarest plant species found here, and one of the most beautiful waterfalls on Kauai. Following your tour, browse the gift shoppe at the South Shore Visitors Centre. Afterward, re-board your coach and commence the approximately 35-minute drive back to the pier.
