Excursion Hiking on teneguía volcano & lunch tour at Santa Cruz De La Palma

Cruise line: Silversea
Difficulty:

Meet Your Hiking guide at the pier and board your coach for a 50-minute drive towards the hiking starting point.

San Antonio Volcano, Teneguía Volcano

At the foot of Fuencaliente we find San Antonio volcano which is about 3000 years old. From here you will have beautiful panoramic views of the southern coast of La Palma and the route of the volcanos surroundings.

The track starts next to the crater of San Antonio and goes through an arid landscape of volcanic scoria and dunes of black sand until the Teneguía Volcano, which was the last volcano to erupt in Spain.

Salt Pans, Fuencaliente Lighthouse, Lunch

At the end of the tour, view the lighthouse, which is an active lighthouse at the southern end of the island. The original lighthouse was built in 1903 and whilst it still exists, the current lighthouse replaced it in 1985. Spend time to visit the only traditional salt pans of the Canaries. Almost all salt on La Palma is sea salt, made at the Southernmost tip of the Islands. The salt water is pumped into shallow ponds and left to dry in the sun. As the water evaporates, the salt starts to crystallise out on the bottom, and the workers scrape it into piles to drain and dry in the sun. When it's nearly dry its brought into the shed for a final dry with warm air.

Afterwards, you will enjoy a traditional local lunch at Restaurante Jardin de la Sal before reboarding your coach for a 1-hour drive back to the pier.
