Excursion Hagi maritime heritage & castle town tour at Yamaguchi

Begin in the Hamasaki District, a preserved port neighborhood that once served as the maritime gateway of the Hagi Domain. Walking through its historic streets, learn about the merchants and shipping networks that contributed to the town’s development.

Continue to Meirin Gakusha, one of Japan’s most important former clan schools. Through its exhibits and historic buildings, gain insight into the scholars and leaders who helped shape Japan’s modernization.

The journey concludes in Hagi Castle Town, one of Japan’s best-preserved samurai districts. Stroll along traditional streets before visiting the Kikuya Residence, a historic merchant estate featuring period furnishings, historical treasures, and a beautifully maintained Japanese garden.

Please note: This experience includes approximately 2.4 miles (3.8 km) of walking. Guests will encounter a few steps when boarding and disembarking the coach, approximately 40 steps at Meirin Gakusha, and approximately 50 steps at the Hagi Uragami Museum. At Meirin Gakusha and the Kikuya Residence, guests are required to remove their shoes before entering. Comfortable clothing and sneakers are recommended.
