Minoan Palace of Phaistos

Depart the pier for approximately one-hour drive south of Heraklion for a visit to the Minoan Palace of Phaistos. Overlooking the Messara Plain, Phaistos is the second largest palace of Crete after Knossos and one of the most important archaeological sites on the island. It is a fascinating place to visit with beautiful views and lesser crowds. With its superb architectural composition and its almost perfect construction, it is considered to be the finest and most typical of all Minoan palaces.


Archaeological Site of Gortyn

Following your tour, continue with a brief transfer to the great ancient city of Gortyn. Gortyn was one of the oldest and strongest cities in Crete during the prehistoric and historic period and the first city of Crete to accept Christianity. Upon arrival, take a guided tour through the ruins of the ancient palace complex, which served as the administrative and religious centers for the whole region. The apostle Paul preached here and the city is known for its text of the law carved in stone, the oldest text found in Europe.


After you visit, re-board the coach for your return drive back to the pier.
