Explore the romantic seaside hamlet of Camogli during this bespoke, half-day sightseeing excursion.

Genoa, Camogli, Guided Walking Tour

Depart the pier for the scenic, approximately one hour drive to Camogli, a small fishing village and famous tourist resort located in the Genoa Province, at the base of Monte di Portofino on the Italian Riviera. Camogli dates from ancient times, as shown by traces of human settlements from the 13th-century B.C. found at Castellaro. In the same area, Roman artefacts dating back to the 2nd-century B.C. were unearthed. More recently, a document dating from the Middle Ages cites Camogli as 'Villa Camuli'. Upon arrival, take a guided walking tour of Camogli.

Harbour, Colourful Houses, Beach, Basilica Santa Maria Assunta, Castello della Dragonara

The village features a small harbour with colourful, highly-stacked houses built right up to the lovely beach, and offers spectacular views over the Gulf of Paradise on the Italian Riviera di Levante. The Basilica Santa Maria Assunta, largest of the town's five churches, is beautifully decorated with art and gold left by many of the town's seamen when they died. Adjacent to it is an old castle, the Castel Dragone, also known as the 'Castello della Dragonara', built during the Middle Ages as a fortress to defend Camogli from piracy attacks. In the 16th century, the castle ceased to be a fortress and was used as a prison. In the 1970s, after decades of neglect, the building was renovated and housed a small aquarium, which has since closed.

Free Time & own Exploration

After an exterior photo stop at the castle, some free time is made available for shopping and exploring on your own. During your own stroll, don't miss the opportunity to enjoy, like the locals do as a street food, a very special gastronomic tradition, focaccia al formaggio (focaccia with cheese). Also known as 'focaccia di Recco' after its birth village in Liguria, cheese focaccia is a real Italian street food institution, and typical of Camogli and Recco. In 2014, Focaccia di Recco became a product of Protected Geographical Identification (PGI).

At the conclusion of your visit, re-board your coach and commence the approximately one-hour drive back to the pier.
